Saint Ann Catholic Church

Charlotte, North Carolina

The original Church presented to McCrery Architects was the basement of a never completed church building. The upper Church portion of the original building was never realized, leaving the Parish in the cellar for more than 50 years. This re-design of St. Ann Catholic Church removed the current roof structure to increase the height of the space. The existing building footprint was maintained. The walls were extended to greater height and the roof was designed to span the freshly imagined noble Catholic interior. Two small additions were made to provide for a new Chapel and to accommodate rest rooms. The innovative design also included a chapel to be completed in a later phase that is nearly complete. The entire project was so well received that donors immediately responded, allowing for further improvements including mosaics, statues, and inscriptions.
